REVIEWS:

Crossculture CD
“Duquemin was percussionist with Gondwanaland, a truly ground breaking Australian act. This credential alone will be enough to make you seek this album. This is not your average, wishy-washy, world music fusion. He has brought the sounds of the rough and the smooth from tribal culture and brought them and offsets the pleasant chord progressions of the east with bleepy, grindy industrial samples, and beats to produce a soundscape of exceptional depth and texture. The overall tone is very positive, but never loses its edge. An album that improves with repeated listening.”

Expand your horizon

“Education and evolution strike out as the main theme on Ed Duquemin’s wonderfully compiled Crossculture. Bringing together three decades of world, dub and bass, Duquemin achieves the rare feat of producing an album which actually lives up to its name. Offering such diversity, one can imagine Crossculture proliferating at anything from a mainstream cafe to a rave barn in the back blocks. Nearly all of Duquemin’s rich musical history is put out to show, ranging from his beginnings as a childhood drummer to his time with indigenous communities and most recently, his continued experimentation on the London synth scene. With a tilt towards percussion, Duquemin offers a crisp, accurate and dynamically of beats. The opening sequence on Luv is comparable with Basement Jaxx’s world-wide hit Where’s your head at ?, while the epic Be Afraid offers new depth to mid-90’s techno. Not all of Crossculture is fast-paced however, beginning and ending with a gentle blend of natural sounds. It’s a mind-opening offering, guaranteed to shorten generational gaps and expand horizons.
