Margaman-"4Q"

Mapmusic presents "4Q" the new album from Margaman.

It all started way way back in the day. Music has been passed down to me you could say. My granddad was in his own little band in Jamaica but back then he was on the Banjo tip it was still all good. My dad and his brothers continued the band thing playing reggae across the U.K., he even played in one show with Bob Marley who actually used my dads guitar, which my dad only then sold for a spliff or something (between me and you I’ve got another guitar I tell people was the one Bob Marley played). So as you can see my background has been predominantly reggae growing up around it and hearing it every day its what I predominantly listen to now. And with seeing my dad go to studio and hearing some of his songs on radio I knew where my heart was at.

I firstly started producing from my early teens and played the Bass guitar in little jam sessions with my dad. Took music in school where I learned to play more instruments playing on stage in most school events. At home I started gathering various music equipments to further my production and started getting artists (well friends) to come around to produce for. Every time a track was being done, for joke, I would freestyle and chat the most rubbish claiming I’m messing around. But the response was always “that’s joke you should use that as your style” so after a while I did.

Around 1996 developing a comedy style of rap, I started of going by the name Jooky Jam which led me to make my first album produced by my self called Marga Man featuring stacks such as “Bruck” and “Sketty Betty” which got a lot of people talking in interest. After trying and failing in different independent record labels and after seeing Eminem come out with exactly with what I was trying to do, I was disheartened with the whole music thing and was looking to quit. I started being the Mic Man when ever my friend would DJ in a club bringing comedy into everything I was saying, people loved it. I hosted a couple talent shows doing a little stand up comedy before the show started. I thought this would be my career and not rapping.

Don’t know what happened but around 1999, a burst of “one more try” inspiration took over me leading me to change my name to Marga Man and make my first EP crazily called “Part one”. Featured “Im Bored” and “Shut your mouth”. It got a lot of interest, which in early 2003 lead me do my second EP surprisingly called “Part two” Featuring “Butterz Friend” and “Mess Wid Me”.

It was the second EP that took interest by the company surrounding Dizzee Rascal Wiley and Taz. Which led me to feature on Dizzie Rascal’s and Taz current albums and to tour most 2004. Covering shows like Coachella (biggest in the U.S), which had had around 50,000 people UMF 2004 and much much more.

After the demand of the “Butterz Friend” I decided to do a video for the single with a snip of “I’m Bored” which with all its comedy elements got far in the Channel U chart.

The rest and they say is History, which I will have to type to you all one day.

Until then Love yourself and each other…

…Rasta!
