Toninho Crespo Toninho Crespo - ’Toque De Amor’ Toninho Crespo is a Brazilian musician, composer and activist based in Sao Paulo. As a pioneer of Brazilian-reggae he has spread the message of roots reggae and the rich traditional music of his country for over two decades. In between performing throughout Brazil, Cuba, France, Morocco and the UK, Toninho has released three albums and taught music (guitar, percussion and berimbau) to young people in many of the poorer communities in his home city of Sao Paulo. "TOQUE DE AMOR" ("Touch Of Love") marks his first release on MAP MUSIC. The twelve tracks were recorded at COOL CUT studios in Sao Paulo with production/mixing by the internationally acclaimed Cuca. Styles range from roots to lovers dub; all with a unique Brazilian blend of sensual melodies and conscious lyrics in Toninho's first language, Portuguese. Jamaican guitar legend, Maurice Gordon, plays lead on "O Passado" and "Foi Voce" whilst master percussionist Luis Carlos De Paula performs and collaborates on many tracks. The cover photo was taken during a visit to London in autumn 2003 (after the record hot summer!) and provided the inspiration for the title track "Fire Jerere", a song in support of ending world-wide ganja prohibition. Toninho will be in London for the Notting Hill Carnival this August, and for the official promotional launch of TOQUE DE AMOR, followed by live shows in France and Portugal.
