Tony Rhone "Living Large"

Whether it is the swirling scats of Jazz, rhythmic Drum n Bass, the robust flavor of Big Band, or pulsating House, performance/spoken word artist Tony Rhone is a shape shifter playfully and simultaneously inhabiting a range of genres and eras. A native Californian currently residing in London, Rhone brings his worldly experiences to music creating an energetic sound and style that can fit as easily in NYC as it does in Ibiza. DJ's and fans alike are taking notice of Rhone's first single, Living Large, a plush mingling of soulful Jazz, House, and DnB elements that includes mixes from Grammy nominee E-Smooze and Eric Robertson. The track reached the Top 40 of Billboard's Hot Dance Music/Club Play Chart by summer 2004 and is continuing to receive praise from the American dance scene. Some of this attention may be due to the fact that Rhone did not start his career as a musician. He was traveling the world as a performance artist and free-flowing poet who always had a love for rhythm. He found inspiration in Cab Calloway, Frank Sinatra, the European dance scene, and pop culture. Eventually, he moved to Italy and started working in the clubs, which inevitably led to producing music. Since he was a performer first, he allowed himself to eclectically create music without attempting to fit the sound into a particular box or style. With his breakout hit, Living Large, and wide range of influences, it will be interesting to see where the future takes Tony Rhone. Regardless, he will be certain to follow his muse. For Rhone, the only true formula he adheres to is the ability to say at the end of the day, "I did it all for passion."
